Beavers 6 – 8 yrs

Welcome To The Adventure!

Beavers meet on a Wednesday night. Beaver Scouts is the first and youngest section in the Scout
Movement for 6 to 8 year olds. As a Beaver, your child will join their Colony in exploring the outdoors, delving into creative crafts, discovering their community, playing games
and making friends. After a few weeks of attending
Beaver Scouts, your child will be ‘invested’. This is when they promise to do their best and help others. Scouting opens the eyes of young people to a world of extraordinary possibilities.

Activities

Earn badges, get active and embrace the challenge!
We believe that young people learn by doing, so our Beaver
Scout Programme is bursting at the seams with a magnificent variety of activities, which engage and challenge young people of all abilities. You can expect your child to get involved in:
• sleepovers
• water activities
• nature walks
• cooking
• crafts
• sports
• and many more…

The Promise

The Beaver Scout Promise helps Beavers to understand and remember the values of Scouting. Every young person and Leader makes their Promise as part of being invested into Scouting. Speak to your Leader to find out more about investiture.

I promise to do my best
To be kind and helpful
And to love God

(other culture promises are available).

Beaver Uniform

The Beaver uniform consists of:

The Blue Beaver Sweatshirt: This can be purchased via Scout Stores Online or at Exeter Scout Shop (9 Ashton Road, Little Silver Activity & Training Centre, Exeter, EX2 8LN).

The Yellow and Black Group Necker: This is given to you as part of your son / daughters investiture.

Trousers and Shorts: You may wear any black or dark blue trouser and shorts that you like other than Jeans. We don’t advise school trousers as you could get dirty, the only time we will ask you to wear school trousers is for Remberance Sunday Parade, St. Georges day Parade and any other formal event.

T-shirts: We don’t mind what you wear under your jumper just remember if you take it off it could become dirty. During the summer you can wear the beaver blue polo shirt from Scouts Stores Online or the yellow group t-shirt which your can get from Brand It in Barnstaple as an alternative to your sweatshirt.

Shoes: Please consider where we are meeting. Please do not wear flip flops or crocs. Trainers and five fingers are ok if we are out for a walk wellington boots or hiking boots are advised. The only time we will ask you to wear school shoes is for Remberance Sunday Parade, St. Georges day Parade and any other formal event.

Peace of Mind

To ensure your child is safe, Leaders adhere to our anti-bullying, equal opportunities, safety and child protection policies. Beaver Scouts take part in activities and learn new
skills under the supervision of adult volunteers. They work effectively and safely with young people to deliver the Scout
Programme and have access to training to support them in their role.

Skills For Life

Scouting is more than just having fun: Beaver Scouts learn skills that are essential to their personal development and reaching their full potential. As well as developing a range of practical skills, your child will have the chance to develop skills such as:
• teamwork
• problem solving
• communication
• and responsibility
